Back in the mid 60's a bunch of guys got together and started up a car club. It all began with 7 cars. A '56 Plymouth Belvedere, a '55 Ford Fairlane, two '55 Chevys, a '56 Buick, a '56 Desoto and a '61 Merc. Back in the day we all paid less than 200 dollars a piece for them! Weekends were spent at the local drag strip where a lot of fun could be had for just a few bucks. After school we would hit the junk yards for parts that we blew up at the track the weekend before. It was your typical car club. It was great fun for a couple of years and then along came the war. Most of us went overseas...most of us came back. We still played with cars, but we all needed jobs, so the car club kind of dissolved and most everyone went their separate ways. A couple of us never kicked the habit and decided to get back into cars in a more serious way. We started a business named after our old car club - Soledad Performance. The name "Soledad" comes from a mountain in San Diego called Mount Soledad, where once upon a time very few people lived. They paved a road to the top of the mountain from the town below it, Pacific Beach. The road went in some years before the housing developers got a hold of the hill. We had a stretch of pavement almost a mile long and straight as an arrow. This was a great place to test our cars and, of course, get in a little drag racing as well. These were great times to live and grow up in Southern California. Gas was just 25 cents a gallon and fun was even cheaper. Today Mount Soledad is a veteran's memorial. So that's a little history on Soledad Performance. We are a specialty shop building and restoring Plymouth and Dodge cars from 1962 to 1973. We also source parts for people trying to keep their MOPARS alive. We try to keep this business very high on the FUN scale. We are all getting to old to stress over little things. We offer finished cars as well as rollers. We can help you locate parts or cars that you may be looking for.
